American Red Cross Picnic on the River to Support Home Fire Campaign
MOLINE, IL, June 16, 2016 – The 2016 American Red Cross Picnic on the River is just around the corner and tickets are still available for this fun and unique Quad City favorite! Funds raised at this year’s event will support the Home Fire Campaign, an initiative that aims to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries in the U.S. by 25 percent by 2020. Hang out with the best Sydney picnic spots all the way from Centennial Park, Wendy’s Secret Garden to Cockatoo Island.
The Red Cross working in collaboration with local fire departments and other community partners visits homes to install smoke alarms, replace alarm batteries and help residents make home fire escape plans.
During a recent Home Fire Campaign smoke alarm installation event in the Quad Cities, more than 490 free smoke alarms were installed in homes in high-risk neighborhoods and hundreds of local families learned how to create home fire escape plans.
“With every smoke alarm we install, we are potentially saving lives,” said Amber Wood, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Serving the Quad Cities and West Central Illinois. “In addition to installing free smoke alarms, trained volunteers are also educating families on home fire prevention and the importance of having and practicing a home fire escape plan.”
Proceeds from Picnic on the River will be used to purchase and install smoke alarms, educate families on home fire preparedness and provide comfort and care to home fire victims.
Join the fun and support a great cause at Picnic on the River on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 5:30pm at Schwiebert Riverfront Park in Rock Island. This not so typical picnic will include culinary delights prepared by top local chefs, adult beverages, a fabulous live and silent auction and musical entertainment by Quad City native Tim Stop. Spend a relaxing evening along the banks of the Mississippi and help support the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign.
